2.2.2 Component / Material certification1) Component means any engine, propeller, part or appliance.
All components shall be classified and appropriately segregated into the following
categories:
a. Components, which are in a satisfactory condition, released on an EASA Form 1
or equivalent and marked in accordance with PART 21 Subpart Q.
NOTE: Used components maintained by a CAO (Combined Airworthiness Organization)
appropriately approved for component maintenance and released on an EASA Form 1
(the box “other regulation” of the Block 14a is ticked and the particular CRS statement
issued by CAO is entered in block 12 and reference: [MEMBER STATE
CODE].CAO.[XXXX] there is in the Block 14c “Certificate/Approval Number”) cannot be
installed on aircraft.
b. Unserviceable components, which shall be maintained in accordance with this
section.
c. Unsalvageable components which are classified in accordance with PART
145.A.42.
Note: The following types of components should typically be classified as
unsalvageable:
a. Components with non-repairable defects, whether visible or not to the naked eye;
b. Components that do not meet design specifications, and cannot be brought into
conformity with such specifications;
c. Components subjected to unacceptable modification or rework that is irreversible;
Option 1: when the part/material is purchased directly from the manufacturer, the Certificate of Conformity issued by the manufacturer is expected only;
Option 2: when the part/material is purchased thru a third party supplier (i.e. distributor, operator, maintenance organisation, etc.) the documentation accompanying the part/materials shall contain:
a) Conformity certification to the part/material applicable standard/specification, and;
b) identification of the manufacturing source, and;
c) Identification of the supplier source.
The above mentioned information (a, b, c) may be included in one single Certificate of Conformity that issued by the supplier (containing cross reference to the manufacturer CoC) or be composed by more documents, such as for example the CoC issued by the manufacturer plus a statement from the supplier source. In any case, the manufacturer CoC shall be made available upon request.
NOTE: EASA Form 1 issued by a CAO (the box “other regulation” of the Block 14a is ticked and the particular CRS statement issued by CAO is entered in block 12 and reference: [MEMBER STATE CODE].CAO.[XXXX] there is in the Block 14c “Certificate/Approval Number”) cannot be accepted.
